When Irene told Doug she was looking into Affluence, he made up an excuse and bowed out rather than pay the $ -- it's turning into a potboiler since Sheila's not sophisticated in biz and was spending $2,500 a day on a security firm to escort her; Randy Shipley may be getting paid but that's because the $30K he's owed by Affluence is going through the Attorney General's office for the State of Illinois

Once again, Brendan Tripp bails Ron out: The SMCC meeting Thursday evening at Google on "The Future of Community Management"

Ron ...
Tonight's Social Media Club of Chicago event down at the Google offices featured an all-female panel of social media pros, speaking on the subject "The Future of Community Management".
Here's a pic:
From right to left these are:

Sara Altier from EventBrite - @SaraAltier / @BriteChicago
Samantha Ogborn from Walgreens - @SamOgborn / @Walgreens
Amy Ravit Korin from Google Chicago - @InteractiveAmy / @GoogleChicago
Katey McGarr from Edelman Digital - @KateyMcGarr / @EdelmanDigital
Jessica Murray from Social Media Club - @JessicaRMurray / @SocialMediaClub
Topics included how their activities fit into their organizations, and this, obviously, varied greatly, from the very large Walgreens organization to the very small Social Media Club team, with Edelman primarily doing projects for its clients, EventBrite advocating for the whole social scene, and Amy at Google having to handle a wide array of digital communications.
Each spoke a bit about how they got into doing Community Management ... with very different stories, although most pretty much "fell into it" as the positions began to be developed by their companies.
The subject of what programs they used to help manage things came up, and there were several votes for Sprout Social - @SproutSocial as well as SocialBro - @SocialBro (I'd not heard of that previously). Amy also explained how to use a couple of Google programs, like their link-shortener Goo.gl which not only shortens the URL, but provides tracking, and even lets you generate a QR code.
The discussion was largely centered around Twitter, as this was the largest common ground between the various companies (obviously Google favors G+ as a platform over Facebook!) ... and most of the discussion was generalized to the whole of the Social Media / Community Management function from what they were doing on Twitter.
You can get a pretty good idea of what was happening by following the Twitter chit-chat via the #SMCChicago hash-tag at https://twitter.com/#!/search/realtime/smcchicago
The event featured plenty of wine and beer, and Pizza (and Lava Cakes and their new awesome Parmesan Bread Bites) from Dominos ... not only was Ramon DeLeon - @Ramon_DeLeon in attendance, but he brought his family with as well. The Google facilities are very comfortable and functional, and it's nice that they've been so generous (this was the second event I've been at there this week) providing the space.
Anyway, hope this helps ... as I mentioned, I really didn't have anything to be taking in-depth notes with, so was kind of winging it on the recall!

Ron,
The meetup was titled "iTest my Code: OCDSpec and OCslim for the iPhone", and the presentation was a preview of the a session that Eric Meyer from 8th Light is presenting at CocoaConf Chicago in March.
It wasn't that well attended, maybe 15-20 people - possibly because the subject matter would not appeal to non-developers and a lot of developers find the topic of testing, well, dry, so unfortunately don't address it. Eric presented two tools that he and a colleague at 8th Light have been developing, OCDSpec and OCslim. OCDSpec is a unit testing framework similar to Rspec and OCslim is an acceptance test framework based on CSlim but adapted for objective C. These tools are still in their relatively early stags of development and Eric said that they haven't yet opened the project up to the open source community to collaborate on, but intend to soon. Both use the principle of Wiki based testing and both run very fast. OCSlim works with FitNesse. It is invoked on a separate virtual server within the emulator by FitNesse wiki engine, which handles the wiki data and provides the user interface, though it can be run 'headless' directly using the data and not providing direct user interaction. OCSlim has the added advantage that that test cases and test data can be re-used in other variants of Slim, so can be re-used cross platform (there are C, C++, Java and other variants, so it should be able to be used for Android, Windows Phone and BlackberryOS testing).

Hi Ron! I don't know if you've heard about this yet, but a petition
originated by faculty at the UI in Urbana-Champaign is being circulated
regarding President Mike Hogan.
The news article in the Champaign paper is here:
http://www.news-gazette.com/news/education/2012-02-22/petition-about-uis-hog
an-draws-hundreds-signatures.html
And, the link to the petition is here:
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/faculty-letter-to-board-of-trustees/
I'm not quite sure what all this means yet, and the faculty in Urbana can be
an unruly lot as you know. However, if Prof. Carl Woese, Ikenberry
Professor of Microbiology at the Institute for Genomic Biology and MacArthur
"genius grant" recipient sees fit to sign this, there must be something to
it.
Many of your readers come out of the Urbana environment, so they may enjoy
seeing this information.

Hi Ron,
Leaving Chicago 6 years ago may have been one of my biggest financial mistakes in my life however,
I have survived the Florida Real Estate crash and have found success in a new Deal of the Day provider.
We launched in Palm Beach County couple of days ago and we are being greeted quite nicely. Main reason is that with our product
the Vendor gets a bigger portion of the ticket and they get paid in 30 days. The big guys are pretty tough on the vendors.
Glad your medical problems are in check and I just recently had surgery for P cancer. Seems they got it all.
If anyone wants to contact me to be a partner then email jeff@treasurecoast.com
I look forward to doing business in this fine city after my 5 year non compete.

Colleagues,
Tomorrow at 10am will be a webinar about Gov. Quinn's Gigabit Challenge.
This is a opportunity for community and civic leaders, telecommunication providers, business and economic development parties, university-community college parties, and others to consider "whether" or "how" to prepare applications for substantial funding to match local and regional area fiber extension projects.
Partnership for a Connected Illinois is in the role of "getting the word out" concerning this opportunity, including helping bring together local area partnerships in 10 DCEO regions. PCI will not be an evaluation role.

Colleagues,
This webcast should be interesting, including what panelists say about impact of this week's signing of the Middle Class Tax & Jobs Act, which
provides for FCC spectrum auction to benefit very fast-growing wireless broadband, to build nationally compatible public safety wireless network, research and some debt paydown. Cisco says wireless broadband traffic could rise by a factor of 20 between 2010 and 2015, and its already gone up 125% or more.
Some interesting data from White House's Council of Economic Advisors on economic engines from mobile broadband, including thousands of jobs in small businesses, focusing on apps for smartphones and tablets. Stats:
To date there have been over 18 billion downloads of apps for Apple's iPhone and other devices, as well as 10 billion for those for Android devices, with each total increasing around 1 billion per month.
Over 120,000 companies publishing apps for Apple's platform alone. (If 3-4% were in IL, this would mean 4-5,000 small companies.)
More than 88% of the 500 most popular mobile apps were developed by small businesses, most with fewer than 10 employees. (I wonder how many in Chicago and other parts of Illinois and Wisconsin/Indiana/Iowa/Missouri/Kentucky?)

It would be great to see a series of Local Application Expos in all parts of Illinois, including in Loop and 10 non-Loop areas of Chicago (defined by City College and state university enrollment/service areas of about 250,000 each - about the size of 5 wards). Local Area outreach and expo events were among topics discussed last September at DCEO Sustainability Meeting of the Advisory Committee on Elimination of the Digital Divide, based on the very successful Killer App Expo in 2007 in Ft. Wayne, In. (about 250,000). There was preliminary interest by parties like Best Buy (potential local Expo partners in neighborhoods, since it has about 10 stores in Chicago) as part of their national participation in FCC Connect America campaign to bring US up to world Internet penetration. Similarly, sponsors might include wireline and wireless providers (like ATT, Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular), as well as cable companies like Comcast and others offering new Internet customers $10/month Internet for school lunch-eligible families with children in schools, as part of Internet Essentials and FCC Connect 2 Compete program. Something to think about.

Hi Ron, I hope you are well!
I just received this information for the upcoming 2012 Digital Accessibility
Expo at the UIC Forum, Friday, April 20, 2012
http://tigger.uic.edu/depts/oaa/disability_resources/dae2012/index.html
The keynote speech by T.V. Raman of Google Research, "Delivering Universal
Access to Cloud-Based Information," sounds like it will be very interesting
for many of your readers. Accessibility and universal design are hot topics
in tech, architecture and consulting, as well they should be!
Take care, I hear that Spring is just around the corner....oops, by saying
that, I probably cursed us to a big snowstorm! Best, Chuck

Excelerate Labs CEO Troy Henikoff talks about upcoming 2012 class, Chicago startup community

Subject: Excelerate Labs CEO Troy Henikoff talks about upcoming 2012 class, Chicago startup community
Date: 2/24/2012 2:10:23 P.M. Central Standard Time
From: phil@doejo.com
To: RONALDMAY@aol.com, ron@themayreport.com
Troy Henikoff, CEO and co-founder of Excelerate Labs-which is described as an intensive summer accelerator for startups-gushes about Chicago's burgeoning tech startup culture like a professional baseball player coaching a little league team.
"We've all learned that if we work together we have a lot more impact and that the rising tide will lift all of us," Henikoff says, barrowing from a famous Kennedy aphorism.
Henikoff, who founded successful companies like Specialized Systems and Software, and SurePayroll, startedExcelerate Labs with OKCupid and SparkNotes founder Sam Yagan, the I2A Fund and Sandbox Industries. The goal being to serve as an entrepreneurial bootcamp, mentoring 10 selected startups leading up to Demo Day, when they present their polished ideas to hundreds of eager investors.
While currently accepting applications for its 2012 summer program, Excelerate Labs will host an Applicant Open House on February 29, with another open house being scheduled for the following week. Henikoff says the open house will give people an opportunity to ask questions, come hang out at Excelerate Labs and meet some of the alums.
Doejo spoke with Henikoff about how Excelerate Labs earned its prominent ranking in Forbes' top accelerators in the country, why so many entrepreneurs in Chicago want to give back to budding startups, and what he looks for in applicants.
What's it been like to see so many startups enter and grow at Excelerate Labs?
It's amazing to see the transformation these companies make over the course of the program. Many of the companies come in thinking they got their business models right, they just need funding. They quickly realize that, 'wow, this is a lot harder than I thought and there's a lot more to owning a business then having cash in the bank.' They really have to test their hypotheses, get feedback from the marketplace and sometimes totally pivot the core of their business model, dramatically.
BabbaCo came in with a business model that was all about providing educational videos for moms and left with a physical tangible product that gets mailed every month, the BabbaBox. Huge pivots in some cases, it's really cool to see that and help facilitate that process.
How does Forbes quantify your success when they rate you the #3 accelerator in the country?
I don't know how their rankings work. But the year before there was a similar ranking done by the Kauffman Foundation where we rated #3 as well. They said it was a combination of objective measures: number of companies that got funded over a certain amount, number of companies' total funding dollars; and subjective measures: from a poll of venture capitalists in terms of which one's they thought had the most value, and they put it together to come up with the ranking.
Is there anything for the forthcoming class of 2012's program that you'll adjust?
We've matured. And we've learned along the way. We were very much a startup, testing various things, whether it's how we select companies, how we run the mentoring; last year we experimented bringing IDEO in to do some design work with companies and they had office hours every week, that was great, our companies benefited a ton from that and so did IDEO. We are working on how to take that experience and make it even better. We're going to change the way mentors work a little bit, more incremental changes.
You have many partnerships with companies like New World Ventures, Sandbox Industries, IDEO, and a variety of other influencers in the tech startup ecosystem. Why is this community so vital for growth?
You can be successful without it, it's just harder. When I started my first business operating out of my parent's basement writing software, I had no mentors, I had no one to turn to, I didn't have a clue. I had to learn it all and make lots of mistakes. We sold that business after 6 years to Medline Industries and I stayed on to run their software division for the next 5 years. After 11 years, I finally felt like I had a handle on this art we call "business."
So, part of what we do through Excelerate and through the mentorships and formal programming is accelerate that learning progress and accelerate the learning process. During the course of July, our companies are exposed to what I call the 'Entrepreneurs MBA,' so everyday from noon to 1:30, there's a different seminar put on by an expert on topics you need to learn about to run a business. If you are a first time entrepreneur, there is a lot to learn-anything from SEO, HR, PR, key performance indicators, building a financial model, understanding contracts, legal issues, employee motivation, there's a laundry list of things, things you haven't really thought about but you need to be exposed to.
When I first started I didn't know the difference between a balance sheet and an income statement. I had an engineering degree, I could write software and I could solve people's business problems, but I didn't know how to read financial statements.
There are a lot of things you can learn from other people's mistakes or from other people, I can't tell you how many times someone has come to me for advice and I've said, 'oh, I've seen this movie before, I know how it's going to end.' I've been there, I've lived this. You need to hear from a mentor: 'now that you're a real company, there's things you need to deal with.' That's where the mentorship and the community really helps.
How did this community become so vibrant and potent in Chicago?
In terms of the vibrancy in the Chicago community, what happened is a couple of things. There was nothing like this before three years ago and so people were hungry for it. You had successful entrepreneurs who, when you've been running your business for 10 years, it's kind of fun to roll up your sleeves with the guy operating in his garage and remember those early days-and to help them, and feel like you're giving back.
We have a lot of people in Chicago now that have run successful technology businesses that are ready and want to give back. Last year we had 145 mentors who came in and donated their time. And by mentors I mean the founder of Groupon, the founder of GrubHub, founder of Open Table, founder of Priceline-really great people all with great experience.
Chicago, all of a sudden, has become a place where early stage financing is accessible in a way that it wasn't before. And I attribute that to that we finally have some successful companies in the technology space.
So Chicago's already had plenty of capital, so if you look at all the private equity firms here-but most of that was made on old-line businesses or financial services. So when those guys have success, they want to reinvest in similar business, whether it's manufacturing, distribution... they weren't investing in technology. Contrast that with Silicon Valley, where you had some early successes, Fairchild, Intel, HP, etc., and people that made money from those companies, the early investors, want to do it again. They wanted to invest in technology business and this spiral started to happen and it's finally happening in Chicago. It's evident by all the angel groups looking to invest in technology: Hyde Park Angels, Wildcat Angels, Cornerstone Angels, etc., and all the individuals doing it.
Even the Firestarter Fund, where 42 successful entrepreneurs [Henikoff and Sam Yagan of Excelerate Labs among them] put our own money in and pooled our resources to help the early stage entrepreneurs with not only cash, but with our networks and knowledge. It's just an indication that the tide is turning. No longer is there a lack of capital and you have to go to Silicon Valley to raise money for a startup. You put all those things together and it's pretty cool.
You must read hundreds of business proposals all the time, how do you keep from becoming cynical? (Henikoff is also a faculty coach at The University of Chicago's Booth's Venture Challenge, if you were already wondering where he finds the time to sleep.)
We receive hundreds of applications, the last few years we received about 300, and this year we're recruiting harder and harder. And yeah, you get a little cynical, you see a lot of patterns, you tend to see the same plans over and over again, but you pick out the one's that you think are good plans with great entrepreneurs. I firmly, firmly believe that it's the execution and the entrepreneur that's the differentiator, much more important than the idea. So Google was not the first company with an idea for a search engine, Ebay wasn't the first company with the idea of an auction site, you know? But these guys came on top because of how they executed the best.

http://doejo.com/blog/phil-chosen-as-mentor-for-startupbus-a-road-trip-startup-incubator-competition

Do you have what it takes to be a Buspreneur? You know, conceive and launch a startup in a 72-hours-while on a bus-road-tripping to awaiting startup investors in Austin?
You're picturing Keanu Reeves in the front, pacing the bus right?
What started out as an experiment by founder Elias Bizannes dubbed the StartupBus, turned into an extreme entrepreneurial competition in 2010 where a group of 25 strangers were thrown together on a bus to create a startup concept. And if that wasn't enough pressure, participants are traveling to SXSW's Startup Village in Austin, to get there by March 9th, to present six functional prototype web services.
Basically, StartupBus serves as a startup vehicle (literally and figuratively).
This year, StartupBus has expanded into 10 buses traveling to SXSW are coming from New York City, Cincinnati, Boston, Silicon Valley, Florida, Louisiana, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Mexico, Washington D.C.
Doejo's own Phil Tadros was chosen this year to be a "Hustler" for the Boston team. A "Hustler" acts as a "business acumen," mentoring teams along the way. Boston bus "Conductor" Igor Lebovic said he chose Phil because of his experience, way of thinking and ability to tackle a time-sensitive competition.
"The bus will have a variety of skills and personalities," Igor said in an email. "On the other side of that scale, you'll find some MIT/Harvard 20-year-old's who could use some directional guidance but are absolutely stunning in coding. Overall, I am looking for balance in hard and soft skills, and Phil seemed to match a role that I was trying to fill."
We're pumped to see the inevitable trip updates on Phil's photoblog!

#2: Subject: Uber, an on-demand private driver app, visits Doejo
Date: 2/23/2012 1:08:15 P.M. Central Standard Time
From: phil@doejo.com
To: RONALDMAY@aol.com, ron@themayreport.com

Uber is an on-demand accessible luxury car service, all controlled by mobile app. Getting from point A to point B has never been easier-or classier.
When you request an Uber car, a black town car picks you up with hassle-free online payment (tip included), all manageable by Uber's dispatch software-integrated iPhone or Android app. You can seriously track your car coming on a map in the app. It's awesome.
Phil is an Uber evangelist. As a matter of fact the guys at Uber were kind enough to give us a promo code that will take $15 off any new Uber user's first ride. The code is "Doejo," if you haven't already guessed.
Allen Penn, the general manager of Uber Chicago and Max Crowley, the community manager, paid a visit to the Doejo offices to talk about expanding Uber's reach and range of opportunities.
In situations where there are a lot of crowds and no cabs, they're there-whether it's after a Bulls game, a concert, event or even a restaurant experience. Uber has even teamed up with Chicago Restaurant Week, offering free car services to one partner restaurant a day-today is at Sunda by the way.
To Uber, your phone is more than just a phone, it's an emailed concert ticket, directions to a show, a camera and blogging/ social media platform. So, for it to also be a pre-paid car service just makes sense-and your night out that more seamless, Allen says. Why bring your wallet?
It's an interesting space to provide a service to, he says, establishments rewarding its best customers or agencies taking out clients who don't want to fuss with cabs. Uber gives a restaurant the ability to offer free rides home to customers, for example. And since many agencies and tech companies budget in cab fare for clients and employees, why not make it easier for them with a easily manageable Uber account?
For individual users, especially in a major city where few own a car, there's a core transportation need. With or without an accessible taxi option, many users-out with friends, on a date or in remote areas-are willing to pay a bit more for a better experience, Allen says. And Uber is looking into as many permeations of that as possible. And that's why Uber is a startup we love.

to RONALDMAY, me
We've done some amazing work for a wide range of clients using WordPress and WordPress VIP.
And aside from offering a easy-to-integrate and manage publishing platform-for both the developers and the clients-WordPress has a fantastic community following with great referral perks-It's how we met one of our biggest clients!
Recently Doejo was listed on WordPress as an Automattic Code Poet, for having a whole section of our site dedicated to our WordPress work for clients like Greater > Than, Consequence of Sound, Ice Cream Man, Cheeky Chicago, Olive Films, and a slew of other web development and platform development work.
It's our recent work utilizing WordPress VIP for a large US broadcaster that we're really proud of. Operating broadcast TV stations in 20 U.S. cities, the company needed to upgrade their various network-affiliated websites to be as modernized and functional as possible.
They were referred to Doejo when they decided to switch the publishing platform from its proprietary system to WordPress VIP. Along the line we did the complete information architecture for all 20 network news sites. Soon, editors and writers will be able to upload news stories, video and various media much more efficiently and with a more idiomatic UX.

Joel,

Did you happen to see 60 Minutes tonight?

If you did not, they profiled Magnus Carlsen and showed our old friends Boris Spasky (Magnus drew him when he was just 13 years old) and Bobby Fisher.

Yes, nice human interest story, but didn't go very deep. The documentary a few years ago on Susan Polgar was better in that sense (My Brilliant Brain - Make Me A Genius). Last year's HBO documentary on Bobby Fisher was quite good as well.

What makes Magnus Carlsen so good that they call him "the Mozart of chess"?

Both child prodigies? Then again, that's really not so unusual for Grandmasters, but Magnus climbed to the top faster than anyone. I wonder if such modern advantages as online chess services, chess engines and databases, and easy travel to elite tournaments might have made ia difference in his rate of progression.

There have been other chess prodigies.

Does he have a particular style of play, as for instance, a Nimzovich did?

To tell you truth, I really don't understand the game at the level these guys play. I've been impressed, though, with his determination to win. I've watched him play late into the night, hours after most others would have settled for a draw, and finally wear down his opponent to the point where he makes one little mistake that Magnus can pounce on to win.

They interviewed the guy who runs
www.chessbase.com/

Do you know him or Magnus?

Yes, I know pretty well all of the chess people in the program. I've gotten into a few heated philosophical debates with Freddie, who has helped me understand how the Nazis came to power in Germany. He's not such a bad guy, but is quite rigid in his thinking, which can lead him to some rather frightening opinions.

I first met Magnus and his dad, Henrik, about 5 years ago in Tel Aviv, where he was playing in the World Blitz Championship that my company sponsored. We happened to all get back to our hotel around 11pm and were hungry, so we went to the only restaurant still open at that hour -- MacDonald's! It really struck me at the time that he seemed like such a normal teenager, somewhat reserved around a stranger like me and very much like my son who is the same age, yet was so incredibly gifted in chess. By comparison, when I first met Hikaru Nakamura at a similar age, he was an arrogant, obnoxious brat. (I should add that Hikaru has matured quite a bit and is now pretty likable.)

Both Magnus and Hikaru are part of a generation of strong chess players who have grown up on ICC, with both of their fathers complaining to me that their sons spend too much time playing, rather than seriously working at the game. By coincidence, I spent some time with all of them a few weeks ago discussing my own hypotheses about ways to motivate children to stay with chess far longer than they normally do. Henrik was particularly interested in these ideas and the plans for my new business.

Also, why is Chessbase.com so dominant?

First to market with a comprehensive database of chess games, technology-driven company with methodical development plans, excellent job of cultivating and maintaining contacts with top chess people (Freddie gets a lot of the credit), good news coverage of major chess events (albeit heavily biased towards friends -- won't mention ICC even when reporting on an ICC tournament!), and some big mis-steps by the competition (especially ICC before my time). Basically their chess database and analysis software has been the standard for serious players and they were able to leverage that to become one of the three major players in online chess (after ICC ignored their offer to work together).

They said that Magnus makes $1.5MM a year driven by advertising sponsors.

I believe it. Henrik was an engineer, but it's become a full time job just helping Magnus with his chess career and ancillary opportunities.

They also said that he has 10,000 games in his head. How on earth is that possible, and beyond that, how would you pull them up?

One of the things that really amazed me when I started meeting top chess players is that they quite commonly seem to be able to remember every game they've ever played, at least in tournaments, as well as large numbers of games of others. I don't know how 10,000 might compare to others, but they've obviously got some quite efficient storage systems. Presumably what they're remembering is not so much a sequence of moves, but something more like a logical progression of familiar patterns plus aberrations from expected positions. In fact I'll bet it's easier to remember good games than bad ones, with the greater deviations from strong and familiar lines of play requiring more unique storage.

Ron

Leading Cloud Computing Services Company Etherios Hires Tucker MacLean to Lead Nonprofit and Education Practice
Etherios further expands customer success with CRM and the social enterprise into Nonprofit and Education Industries
CHICAGO -- (www.twitter.com/techaccesstv) -- Etherios, a leading cloud computing services company, today announced the appointment of salesforce.com veteran and former leader of that company's nonprofit programs, Tucker MacLean, as its new Nonprofit and Education Practice Director. MacLean will help Etherios expand upon on its early successes in moving nonprofits to the cloud. He will also be responsible for developing a philanthropic strategy for the Company to leverage its rapid growth to give back to the community.
"Salesforce.com has ushered in a breakthrough for nonprofit organizations by enabling them access to a world-class enterprise technology that most nonprofits could not previously afford," says Mike Dannenfeldt, Etherios Founder and CEO. "Tucker was a catalyst for this progress and we are thrilled to have him join the leadership team."
MacLean joined salesforce.com in 2000 where he started consulting in the professional services organization. He progressed into a sales and business development role before taking on leadership responsibilities in the nonprofit and social change community in 2006. During his tenure he created an innovative discounted pricing model for nonprofit and education organizations, and was most recently VP of Customer Success for the salesforce.com Foundation. In that role he oversaw partner programs, as well as the adoption and use of Salesforce CRM by more than 13,000 nonprofit organizations.
"During my time at salesforce.com I worked with numerous consulting partners and was most impressed by the innovative and efficient customer solutions delivered by Etherios," says MacLean. "Etherios combines its project experience, technical architecture and training expertise into a methodology that accelerates its customers' success. I'm excited to help extend these benefits to the nonprofit community." MacLean also notes how this methodology leverages and relies on the social capabilities of the Force.com Platform, which is long overdue for nonprofits that have always had to be 'social organizations.'"
