Briefly noted, by Ron May

[Note: This was published as an editor's note in the e-mailed version of the newsletter.]

[Editor's note: Ron May here. Sorry, I could not resist. I had to publish the last three parts of Robb Hendrickson's (the CEO of Jellifish, www.jellifish.com) response all at once rather than stringing it out over three days because it is so good and chalk-filled with a rare combination of insight, analysis and candor that I can't sit on it. Also, even though Robb broke up his comments into four parts, I do think that Parts two through Four should be read together to give a fuller understanding of the issues. And Robb minces no words. His own i-banker background adds invaluable texture to his comments. This response is a true gem. I really hope that people take the time to read this and respond to TMR with comments that we can all benefit from.

Next, I have spent well over an hour talking to Candy Renwall between last night and this morning. She has sent a very important note about some legislative accomplishments regarding the restoration of the R&D tax credit and the defeat of the custom software tax proposal.

Then, I have written an article about changes in direction at the CSA, including the departure of Katie Kaufmann and Natalie Rucker, the outsourcing of event management, and the reassessment of direction, with a focus shift from only offering best practices and knowledge sharing to a broader scope, including business development efforts for all members. If you are interested in these matters, I think you will find the article helpful.

This is proof that making plans can be futile. I found out that Katie Kaufmann had left the CSA about an hour after the report went out last night, and that dictated my activities for the rest of the evening. I would rather put out more reports and shorter ones than overload you with too much at once. There is plenty of meat here. Now, next on the hit parade is Lederer, Circle Group, the Illinois Century Network, Bodine and family and Grainger; Efoora and I have not forgotten about Kudo Tsunoda's (lion tamer turned game developer) talk. BTW, nor have I forgotten about the ten events that were never completely written up, including the venture summit. My goal is to have that out by early next week so the table is cleared before the fall event season starts. On the website, I will stick this editor's note under "Briefly noted." A good rule of thumb should be that articles should not exceed 45k in length.]
