A panel of angel investors will discuss the criteria that were used to make some of their investments, what went right and wrong in due diligence, how relationships with their portfolio firms have evolved, and factors that contributed to the success and/or failure of their deals. In addition to the panel discussion, there will be roundtable discussions hosted by the angels where entrepreneurs can ask questions and gain further insight into how that particular investor (or his/her network) makes investment decisions.

Chicago makes the Olympics cut
(Crain's) - Chicago's Olympics dreams are still alive.
That's the welcome - if expected - news from Athens, Greece, as the International Olympic Committee announced that Chicago is one of four finalists to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.
The Windy City joins Tokyo, Madrid and Rio de Janeiro on the short list of cities that have been found technically capable of hosting the 2016 games. All four cities have strong credentials, and the competition is likely to be close before a final decision is made in November 2009.

Moto favors HP exec to head up cell unit: report
Reuters
June 4, 2008
Motorola is close to hiring a head for its soon-to-be-independent cellphone unit, with Hewlett-Packard Co.'s Todd Bradley emerging as a favorite, the Wall Street Journal said on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter. Bradley is one of two candidates still under consideration, the newspaper said. Talks are at a sensitive stage and could fall apart, it said, citing the people.
"I'm happy where I am, and I'm not planning to make any changes," the newspaper quoted Bradley as saying by phone on Tuesday night.
Motorola and HP did not immediately return calls seeking comment. Bradley could not immediately be reached.
Bradley has been with HP since 2005, and heads the company's personal systems group, which includes consumer PCs, mobile devices and TVs.
The other person on the shortlist is a telecommunications executive, the paper said. The identity of this person could not be established, it said.
Activist investor Carl Icahn has been lobbying for changes at Motorola , which has been suffering losses for more than a year.
The company, which invented the mobile phone, plans to spin off its cellphone unit next year.

Briefly noted, by Ron May
* Raally no time. I have to be in court at 11:45am. But at the MEF Monday night, one angel investor who had been approached by brokers at Advanced Equities told me that I saved him a lot of money by steering him clear of doing business with those guys and that is what makes this type of reporting worthwhile and a public service. So I plan to keep it up.

Jeff Willinger on Jared Goralnick's talk at Tech Cocktail conference
Subject: article
Date: 6/2/2008 10:53:22 P.M. Central Daylight Time
From: willingerj@gmail.com
To: ronaldmay@aol.com
I attended Jared Goralnick's breakout session at Tech Cocktail on tech shortcuts and productivity-getting the most out of your 8 hour work day. He started by saying purge some of your email accounts-he said having more than 2 can be counter productive. He mentioned www.mailinator.com and www.mailexpire.com as well as the 'inside' secret on your gmail account adding a plus sign-these are ways to avoid getting alot of spam if you are only supplying your email address for a special offer. I looked at all the options and they all appear to work, with adding a plus to your gmail account the easiest and best alternative.
He recommended www.jott.com and www.gotvoice.com also as time savers. Jared is a productivity evangelist according to his card. If you visit his two websites
www.awayfind.com
www.technotheory.com you will see his full bag of productivity and time saving tips. The audience was engaged throughout, as was I and plan on staying in touch with Jared.
