Business, civic enterprise and communication colleagues,
We are pleased to inform you of the 2nd Annual Illinois Community Technology Coalition Conference and the 6th Annual statewide rural Telecommunications Conference on economic development and telehealth on November 16-17, 2005. The joint conferences will take place in Springfield at the University of Illinois Public Affairs Center.
On the 16th, highlights include keynote by Angela Stuber, director of Ohio Community Computing Network (celebrating 10th anniversary promoting Internet access and tech skills in underserved areas), luncheon address by Nicole Friedman, Center for Neighborhood Technology and Sasha Meinrath, Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center, on Illinois rural-urban community telecommunication response to Katrina in Louisiana and Mississippi, workshops of best practices in professional development, policy and funding for Community Technology Centers in low income rural, urban and suburban areas, including DCEO Eliminate the Digital Divide grant program and digital literacy awareness program, and ShareFair networking among participants. Michael Maranda of CTCNet Chicago, Paul Adams of Prairienet, Urbana-Chapaign, and Mike Dickson of Center for Application of Information Technologies at Western Illinois University are leading launch activities of ilCTC as a formal statewide organization.
On the 16th from 5:30-7:30 the Illinois Community Technology Coalition and the Lieutenant Governor?s Office invite attendees on the 16th, early arrivers for the conference on the 17th and other interested parties to a reception on at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library. The reception features Illinois' new director of libraries Anne Craig, speaking on initiatives of Illinois' 4000 libraries on extending connectivity and digital literacy, and the reading of an Illinois General Assembly resolution celebrating Digital Literacy Matters Days.
On the 17th, highlights include keynote by Robert Lieberman, commissioner, Illinois Commerce Commission; luncheon remarks by Jack Lavin, Director, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity; plenary remarks by Joy Keeler, deputy director, AHRQ National Resource Center for Health Information Technology, National Opinion Research Center (NORC); and Ed Feser, associate professor, University of Illinois Department of Urban and Regional Planning.
The cost of registration for one conference is $75. If you would like to attend both conferences, the additional registration cost is $25. If your time is limited, we invite you attend the Reception to learn more about new statewide Awareness Program in Digital Literacy linking with preparing all Illinois residents to link with digital government and consumer services in making Illinois competitive in our world economy and improve quality of lives.
